Why learn Modern Jive?

Have you ever sat at a dance wishing you could join in?

Well - this is the dance that lets you do just that - in no time at all!

It’s one of the most accessible partner dances out there, and that’s why so many people fall in love with it.

It’s the friendliest, most forgiving partner dance on the planet — and quite possibly the only one where you can look good without memorising 100s of  steps in multiple rhythms!

What is Modern Jive?

It's a fusion of jive and salsa - lots of fantastic figures and moves borrowed from these great dances but without the discipline of technique!

And, danceable to any suitable 4-beat tune!

Why Modern Jive is so popular

  • No fancy footwork — honestly, if you can walk in a straight line, you’ll be fine!

  • It is literally - walk in, dance out.

  • Music you recognise — all the way from 50s and 60s tunes, to current chart hits, if it’s got a beat, you can jive to it.

  • No partner required — just bring yourself; we’ll supply the smiles.

  • Instant social life upgrade — you’ll meet new people, and soon be able to go to jive dances!

  • Exercise disguised as fun — you’ll be too busy laughing to notice you’re moving.

It’s relaxed, upbeat, and there will always be someone who remembers exactly what it was like to walk in for the first time. So there is no judgement, no pressure — just some feel-good music, good company, and the occasional triumphant “I nailed that move!” moment.

How classes run

Every class starts with the basics, and generally you’ll dance with different partners — which means you learn quickly and never get stuck feeling unsure.

Before you know it, you’ll be dancing and wondering why you didn’t try this sooner!

At beginner level, we aim to cover the 20 or so basic moves that everybody uses - this takes about 8 weeks.

We learn 3 moves a week, mixing them up in different combinations, so that the leading and following can be easily understood.

There's plenty of repetition and always help on hand!

After the tuition, there is practice time (called Freestyle) when you can go over what you have been taught.

To sum up - it's versatile, fun and easy-to-learn and incredibly useful as it can be danced at parties, on holiday......

Curious?

Why not come along and have a go - it's got something for everyone!
